Web Hosting Canada Review
WHC.ca is a Canadian-owned web hosting company headquartered in Montreal, Quebec, with roots going back to 2003. It has become one of the better-known domestic hosting brands for Canadians who want local billing, bilingual support and a broad path from basic web hosting to larger server products.
The appeal is not one standout feature. It is the convenience of putting several website services under one Canadian provider. WHC sells shared hosting, managed WordPress, domains, business email, VPS and dedicated servers, while also offering DNS and other supporting services around the same account.
What I Actually Use at WHC
My experience with WHC is focused on everyday website administration rather than a benchmark lab. These are services I actively use and manage. I have also had very good results with WHC shared hosting on the kinds of small local-business sites I normally build.
Domain Registration
I keep domains with WHC and use the Client Area for registration, renewals and DNS management.
Business Email
I use WHC business email for domain-based mailboxes and routine account administration.
Premium Anycast DNS
I use WHC Premium Anycast DNS for domains where I want a managed DNS layer separate from ordinary shared-hosting nameservers.
Real Account Experience
My support experience comes from managing these live services, including domain, email and DNS questions.
Most of the WHC sites I work with are straightforward 10 to 20 page websites for local businesses such as electricians and plumbers. They are not large database-heavy applications, and they do not receive massive traffic spikes. Shared hosting has been a great fit for that kind of workload.
That is important context when choosing a plan. A site with heavier database use, ecommerce activity, large plugins or much higher traffic can behave very differently, even when it is hosted on the same platform.
Years of Good Support With One Ticket That Stood Out
I have been a WHC customer since the early days. Most of the time, support has been dependable, quick and courteous, which is a big reason I have stayed with the company.
My biggest frustration came when I needed to update the DNSSEC records for one of my domains. The change itself was simple, but there seemed to be some confusion around the request and I ended up opening a support ticket to get it sorted out.
That ticket took around 20 hours to receive a response. For something that looked like a quick update from my side, that felt like a long wait. It also made me wonder whether some requests that look simple or low priority can quietly move down the queue.
I have occasionally had the feeling that first-level support assumes I need very basic help before fully reading the technical question. On this DNSSEC ticket, my requests for clearer assistance did not really move things along.
Even with that experience, one slow ticket does not erase years of good service. WHC has earned my loyalty over time and I still recommend them. I just expect the same level of care on the small technical requests as I do on the bigger ones.
Four Practical Ways to Use WHC
WHC can look busy at first because it sells many products. I would narrow the choices down by the level of control and management the project needs. For the small local-business sites I normally host, shared hosting has been more than enough, but traffic and database use matter more than page count alone.
Shared Hosting
Best for a business site, blog or smaller WordPress project that needs cPanel, email, SSL and a simple starting point. This is the type of WHC hosting that has worked well for many of my 10 to 20 page local-business sites.
- cPanel control panel
- Free SSL support
- Site migration options
- Good entry point for smaller sites
Managed WordPress
A better fit when you want more of the WordPress maintenance, updates and platform work handled for you.
- WordPress-focused environment
- Less server administration
- Useful for business WordPress sites
- Upgrade path without moving providers
VPS Hosting
For projects that need more control, allocated resources and a larger step up from shared hosting.
- More server control
- Useful for growing workloads
- Canadian VPS options
- Natural upgrade from shared hosting
Dedicated Servers
Physical server resources for busier applications, isolated workloads and customers that have outgrown virtual hosting.
- Dedicated physical resources
- Higher resource ceiling
- Canadian server options
- Better fit for heavier workloads
WHC Entry Pricing at a Glance
The table below uses the current WHC prices already stored in HostScout's provider data. Promotional pricing and renewal terms can change, so I treat these as entry points rather than long-term cost guarantees. My own shared-hosting sites are mostly modest local-business builds, so I would not use my experience as proof that the entry plan will suit a high-traffic or database-heavy site.
| Service | Starting Price | Best Fit | Pricing Note |
|---|---|---|---|
| Shared HostingCanadian Web Hosting | $3.89CAD /m promo | Small business sites, blogs and brochure websites | Intro price. Check the renewal term. |
| Managed WordPressManaged platform | See WHCCurrent pricing | WordPress sites that want more management | Plan pricing varies by tier. |
| VPS HostingVirtual server | $18.50CAD /m | Growing sites and custom workloads | Compare management level and resources. |
| Dedicated ServersBare metal | $149.99CAD /m | Higher traffic and isolated infrastructure | Hardware and inventory can change. |
Do not choose a host based on the checkout banner alone. Compare the billing term, renewal rate, resource limits and optional add-ons before committing.
Check Current WHC PricingWHC Uses Different Nameservers by Service
This is useful to know if you manage more than one WHC product. The correct nameserver group depends on the hosting or DNS service attached to the domain.

A Small Loyalty Credit Most Reviews Ignore
WHC's PLUS Rewards program automatically turns eligible spending into account credit that can be used against future WHC purchases or renewals.
Points are earned from eligible paid invoices.
The balance appears in the WHC Client Area.
That works out to roughly 2% back in WHC credit using the current values.
WHC Is Broader Than One Montreal Location
WHC's status view currently presents five infrastructure locations. Product placement varies, so I would verify the location of the specific hosting or server product rather than assume every service runs from the same facility.
East and West Coast Options
WHC positions its web-hosting platform around Canadian East and West coast infrastructure, which is useful for businesses serving customers across the country.
Shared to Larger Infrastructure
The same provider also sells VPS and dedicated servers, so a growing customer can move beyond shared hosting without changing companies.
Public Support Patterns Are More Mixed Than My Long-Term Experience
The customer-service section above reflects my own long-term experience. Public feedback is more mixed, especially when a ticket becomes complicated or needs escalation, so I think both perspectives are worth showing.
Long waits are more commonly reported when a request needs escalation or deeper investigation.
WHC is visible in public review channels and often replies with context or a next step.
Across years of use, support has usually been reliable and courteous. The DNSSEC ticket described above is the clearest exception in my own account history.
These bars are a visual summary of reported and observed response patterns. They are not a WHC service-level guarantee.
Where WHC Fits Well and Where It Does Not
- Canadian ownership and CAD billing. A practical fit for businesses that want a domestic provider.
- Many services in one account. Domains, email, DNS and hosting can live under the same company.
- Bilingual support. English and French service is valuable for Canadian businesses.
- Clear upgrade path. Shared hosting can lead into WordPress, VPS or dedicated infrastructure.
- Shared hosting has fit my local-business work well. My typical electrician and plumbing sites are simple builds with moderate traffic, and WHC has handled that use case well.
- Promotional pricing needs context. Always compare the renewal term before ordering.
- Shared resources still have limits. Busy WooCommerce, database-heavy applications and sites with sustained high traffic may need a larger plan than the simple sites I normally run.
- Support speed can vary. More complex issues can take longer than basic account questions.
- Specialist server buyers should compare. VPS and dedicated shoppers have many infrastructure-focused alternatives.
A Practical Canadian Host With a Broad Product Ladder
WHC makes the most sense for Canadian users who want a recognizable domestic company, CAD billing, bilingual support and the convenience of keeping several website services together.
I would start with the simplest plan that comfortably fits the project. For the kind of 10 to 20 page local-business sites I commonly work on, shared hosting has performed very well. That does not mean every site belongs there. Traffic patterns, database activity, ecommerce workloads and application complexity should determine when it is time to move up to Managed WordPress, VPS or dedicated resources.
