How do I check if an IP address belongs to a Canadian web host?
Enter the IP address in the lookup and read the network name, registered country and related entities. A network name that matches a hosting company identifies the operator, not the owner of the hardware. Confirm the server location with the Canadian hosting location checker, then confirm who owns the hosting company.
What is the difference between Whois and RDAP?
Whois is the older text-based lookup service. RDAP is its standardized replacement and returns structured JSON, so the fields are easier to read and compare. HostScout uses RDAP and shows the raw JSON with each result.
How do I find the ASN for an IP address or CIDR block?
ARIN records show who a network block is registered to. They do not show which ASN currently announces it in BGP. The Canadian hosting location checker shows the ASN and network organization for each public IP address. Enter that ASN in this lookup to see who it is registered to.
Can I look up a domain name in ARIN Whois?
ARIN registers IP addresses and ASNs, not ordinary website domains. When you enter a domain, HostScout resolves it to a public IP address first and then looks up that address. If the domain resolves to several IP addresses, each one links to its own registration record.
Does an ARIN record show where a server is located?
No. A record shows the registered organization and sometimes a registered country. A company can register address space in one country and run servers in another. Check server location with IP geolocation, routing data and provider documentation, and read my guide to Canadian data residency.
Does ARIN cover Canadian IP addresses?
ARIN is the regional Internet registry for Canada, the United States and parts of the Caribbean, so most Canadian networks are registered there. Some address space is registered with other registries. HostScout follows the registry response, and the registry badge on each result shows which one answered.
How do I find the abuse contact for an IP range?
Open the Registered Entities card and look for an entity with an abuse role. Registries only list the roles they publish, and the raw RDAP JSON shows the full record. If no abuse entity is listed, contact the organization named in the registration record.
Important Distinction
Whois Registration Is Not Server Geolocation
An IP block can be registered to an organization in one country while servers using addresses from that block operate somewhere else. RDAP is strongest for identifying the registered Internet resource and organization, not the exact physical location of a machine.
