How HostScout Checks a Website

Before showing a location result, HostScout checks the public DNS and network signals behind the domain so a CDN or incomplete result is not presented as a confirmed origin server.

01

Resolve the Website

Public A, AAAA and CNAME records are checked to identify the IP addresses exposed by the domain.

02

Check Location & Network

Each public IP is checked for approximate country, city, ASN and network organization using the local GeoLite databases.

03

Check for a CDN or Reverse Proxy

Major CDN and reverse-proxy signals are checked before a public IP is treated as useful evidence of the website's origin location.

Hosted in Canada does not mean Canadian-owned.

A foreign hosting company can operate servers in Toronto, Montréal or Vancouver. This tool checks the publicly visible hosting location and network; it does not automatically determine the legal ownership of the hosting company.

Likewise, a website's public server location does not prove that databases, backups, email or other services remain in Canada.

IP geolocation and ASN results include GeoLite Data created by MaxMind. Location results are approximate and should not be treated as a precise physical server address.
