ARIN Whois & ASN Lookup

Look up public Internet registration records for an ASN, IP address or domain. HostScout uses RDAP to show the registry, network name, range, CIDR, status and related public entities.

How HostScout Runs the Lookup

RDAP is the modern standardized replacement for traditional Whois. The lookup starts with ARIN's bootstrap service and follows the authoritative registry response for the Internet number resource.

01

Identify the Resource

Enter an ASN, IP address or domain. Domains are first resolved to a public IP address because Internet-number registries do not register ordinary website domains.

02

Query RDAP

HostScout sends a read-only RDAP request and follows the registry response to the authoritative record.

03

Present the Registration

The tool extracts useful public fields such as the resource name, handle, range, CIDR, registry, status, dates and related entities.

Whois registration is not server geolocation.

An IP block can be registered to an organization in one country while servers using addresses from that block operate somewhere else. RDAP is strongest for identifying the registered Internet resource and organization, not the exact physical location of a machine.

For hosting-location research, combine registry data with DNS, IP geolocation, routing and provider documentation.

Registration data is retrieved through ARIN's public RDAP service and, when applicable, the authoritative regional Internet registry. Use of ARIN Whois/RDAP is subject to ARIN's published terms of use.
